This Saturday, the 2020 edition of the Concordia Carnival will begin, and the “Atanasio Bonfiglio” Corsódromo is starting to fill with music and color. What to some people might seem like just a parade full of music and joy is, in reality, a competition where four comparsas fight to obtain the title of “Carnival Champion” and tell a wonderful story as they pass through the runway.
Bella Samba presents “Yerba mate, ritual of friendship"
The “Multicolor” will bring passion to the “Atanasio Bonfiglio” Corsódromo, telling the legend of yerba mate to celebrate the ritual of mate with joy, rhythm, and color. The multicolors will make the Corsódromo avenue vibrate with a samba enredo that will tell the legend of yerba mate, Caá, a good plant.
Bella Samba explains that they selected this special competition theme for the 2020 edition of the greatest Concordia festival because “everything is in the mate, which is tradition, Argentineness, personality, warmth, poetry, history, passion, and it is part of life; it is always there, at home, at work, with friends, with our love, a companion in moments of solitude, or that other one we usually share with our relatives and friends, building a bridge between one another. Their samba enredo narrates the origin of Yerba Mate, a legend that is closely related to other great legends that reflect the importance the plant has in our culture.
This legend tells that Yací, the moon, and Araí, the cloud, came down to earth to see the wonders of the world and were put in danger when a jaguar stalked them in the jungle, but a hunter saved them. As a symbol of gratitude, Yací gave him a plant with which he could make an infusion that would unite people as a symbol of brotherhood and fellowship.
On the other hand, Bella Samba will make the entire “Atanasio Bonfiglio” Corsódromo dance with what many consider the “local carnival anthem,” the traditional “Arriba Concordia,” accompanied by the percussionists of their drum section “Eterna Guerrera.” This group has won the hearts of the people; it is a comparsa highly anticipated by the entire public and makes everyone from the first person to the last on the avenue stand up.
Ráfaga invites you to the magical and wonderful world of fairies
The Ráfaga comparsa, also known as the “most champion” of the Concordia Carnival, since it has seven titles to its name, will present “The magical world of fairies.”
The “tricolor” group will be present at the Corsódromo with a theme that invites us to be children again and to believe in those fantastic beings that populate the world: fairies. The members of the group, which is based in La Bianca, will allow us to immerse ourselves in the magical world of those magical beings in charge of fulfilling different purposes such as taking care of nature, animals, and the pure heart of children.
The tricolors say that fairies are very pure, invisible beings that cannot be seen but are in the sound of the wind, the rustling of branches, the sounds of animals, the smile of babies, but it is not known where they come from. There are fairies of water, fire, wind, and earth.
The group, with the help of a large number of dancer squads with their carnival joy, the Batería Nota Mil, and La Juntada Tricolor, proposes that each one of us create a fairy that represents us using imagination, love, and passion
Emperatriz and its staging: Telling stories from the heart
The “Emperatriz” Social, Cultural and Sports Association will present in this new edition of the greatest summer festival: Telling stories from the heart
This comparsa, which has participated in the Concordia carnival since 2006 with strong investments in glitter and glamour reflected in costumes, plumage, and floats, will tell the story of an Empress, a beautiful green and white woman who displays her charm in the Corsódromo every year.
Palpitating what the performance on the avenue will be, the Green and White Comparsa prepares to dazzle in the 2020 edition with imposing floats, a numerous Comparsa Front, varied squads of dancers, and the TNT Drum Section with its queen Yamila Girasoles.
The group will invite the public to admire this empress who dresses in feathers, color, and glitter, and whose voice is the TNT, her emblem, the people, her crowns the triumphs and victories, her great honor the SATISFACTION, without leaving aside the defeats that encourage her to continue.
In its passage through the “Atanasio Bonfiglio” Corsódromo, Emperatriz will show that woman who, upon the arrival of January, puts on her costume, the floats come out, she steps onto the Corsódromo, and offers her body, her soul, her passion, the glory, and the overcoming.
Imperio will present us the story of Zumbí
The “Imperial Express” will develop in the Corsódromo “With Zumbi, Imperio is a quilombo,” based on a story of a leader of the slaves in Brazil around the year 1600 named Zumbí and the symbols of resistance to slavery.
Zumbí, which in the Bantu language means “Warrior,” organized a massive escape of slaves who took refuge in a place called “Quilombo de los Palmares,” where over time, a self-sustaining city of slaves from all over Brazil was formed, merging their cultures and dances. On November 25, the date of the warrior's death, Black Consciousness Day is celebrated in America.
Imperio promises that in the “Atanasio Bonfiglio” Corsódromo everything will be a party with a lot of swing, a lot of Afro-Brazilian genre, and a lot of joy because “carnival is for being happy,” the imperials say. The comparsa bets -like every year- on a samba enredo that makes the local avenue vibrate with the rhythm and the indisputable lyrics of Maestro "Waly" García, in charge of composing the Official March of Imperio for several years now, where the story of RESISTANCE is summarized for this 2020 edition, which was the feeling expressed by the chants of the slaves.
